This week, we continue our interview with Alex, as he shares his Top 10 Travel Tips (plus 1), and asks us to share some of ours too! 


  • Alex’s Top 10 Travel Tips (plus 1) 
    1. Join a rewards program (airline miles) 
      • Can use miles to get meals, more legroom, check a bag 
      • One-World Alliance, Star Alliance, Southwest, Delta 
    2. Learn how to use Google Flights well 
      • Open destination search 
    3. Consider alternate transportation methods 
      • Rome2Rio.com 
      • Consider taking a bus 
    4. Explore a city on foot 
      • And use public transportation 
      • Burger boat! 
    5. Don’t be an influencer, but be sure to take photos 
      • Balance between capturing memories and experiencing the trip 
      • People never try to start a conversation with you when you’re on your phone 
      • Offer to take photos of others 
    6. Find something to collect 
      • Try and have it be the same thing in all the places you go 
    7. When traveling with a buddy, set expectations before you leave 
      • Talk about budget expectations 
      • Discuss how to spend your time - what do you want a day to look like? 
    8. Get a travel credit card 
      • Benefits: no international fees, free rental insurance, buy clothes if bags are lost, trip cancelation 
    9. Use Google Maps to your advantage 
      • Pins & hearts in google maps 
    10. Talk to locals, be a local 
      • The “top 10 things” in a city doesn’t always give you a complete picture of a city 
      • Learn which restaurants to visit 
      • Also learn what to avoid (where should I not go) 
    11. Treat yo-self! 
      • Get a message, get a nicer room for the night, buy the nice thing, etc.

  • Know yourself 
  • Use what you enjoy to frame your travel 

Cheryl’s Travel tips: 

  • Don’t always assume everything will work out & be prepared when things don’t 
    • E.g., schedule a long enough layover 
  • Be yourself when traveling & also try to experience local culture
